Invitation letter

Dear citizen,

We are about to do something new and very special. We are personally inviting you to join us in thinking about how we can fight climate change. This is a challenging puzzle that we can only solve together. We face choices that are not only important for ourselves but also for our children and grandchildren. And the government wants to know how you think about this. That’s why we need your advice in the first National Citizens’ Climate Council!

What is the National Citizens’ Climate Council?

Alongside you, we are inviting various people from across the Netherlands: young and old, from cities and villages, and with different opinions on climate policy. From all the applicants, we will randomly select 175 people to participate in the Citizens’ Council. You will discuss the topic with each other and with experts during 6 meetings. Together, you will think about the question: How can we, as the Netherlands, eat, use products, and travel in ways that are better for the climate? eventually, you will create an advisory report for the government. You don’t need any special knowledge or education to participate. The idea is for you to share your views as a resident of the Netherlands.

If you participate, what can you expect?

Taking part is not only important but also special! You will have meaningful discussions, go on interesting excursions, and meet great people. You will also receive a compensation of €120 per month for your participation. If you sign up and you are selected, it means you commit to attending all 6 meetings. The first meeting is on January 18 and 19, 2025. All meetings will be held on weekends in Amersfoort. Do you need help to participate, such as childcare or transportation? You can find more information about this in the brochure attached to this letter.
